How to Choose a Jet A1 FOB Supplier for Bulk Purchases

Choosing a Jet A1 FOB supplier requires more than comparing advertised prices. Buyers need to establish the contracting seller, product specification, available quantity, named loading port and proposed shipment window before evaluating an offer.

This guide explains how to prepare a bulk aviation-fuel requirement, assess suppliers and compare FOB quotations. It also addresses enquiries specifying Rotterdam, Fujairah or Singapore. Mentioning a location does not confirm stock, terminal access or supply availability there.

Submit your defined requirement to Global Petroleum Advisors for procurement review. GPA’s role, available options and commercial terms require confirmation for each enquiry.

What Does FOB Mean for Jet A1 Buyers?

Under FOB Incoterms® 2020, the seller delivers the goods on board the buyer-nominated vessel at the named shipment port. Risk transfers at that delivery point, and the buyer generally arranges the main carriage.

FOB is a maritime delivery rule. If you require road delivery, airport storage or aircraft refuelling, describe that requirement separately and establish appropriate terms.

The International Chamber of Commerce explains FOB delivery and risk transfer.

Information to Prepare Before Contacting a Supplier

Provide a requirement that allows the proposed supplier to assess both commercial and physical feasibility.

Buyer requirement Details to provide
Product Jet A-1 and required specification
Quantity Shipment volume and measurement unit
Supply pattern Spot cargo or recurring shipments
Duration Contract period, where applicable
Loading location Preferred named port and acceptable alternatives
Timing Required loading window
Transport Vessel nomination plans or outstanding arrangements
Destination Discharge port and receiving-facility requirements
Quality assurance Required documents, inspection and acceptance criteria
Buyer identity Legal company name and purchasing representative

Bulk cargo supply does not automatically include airport into-plane refuelling. Confirm the service scope before requesting an offer.

How to Verify a Jet A1 FOB Supplier

Establish the Contracting Party

Identify the legal company selling the fuel and distinguish it from brokers, representatives and other intermediaries.

Check company details through appropriate independent sources. Establish the authority behind any claim to represent a producer or seller.

Assess the Offered Supply

Ask what supports the proposed quantity, source and loading window. Establish how the offer relates to physical supply and terminal arrangements.

An allocation statement or refinery name alone does not establish that a cargo is ready to load.

Check Consistency

Compare the identities, product descriptions, quantities, locations and dates across the offer and supporting information. Resolve discrepancies before progressing.

For the broader sourcing process, read Oil and Gas Procurement.

Jet A1 FOB Rotterdam: Preparing an Enquiry

If your requirement specifies Jet A1 FOB Rotterdam, identify Rotterdam as your preferred loading port and provide quantity, specification and timing.

Ask the proposed seller to establish:

  • The specific loading facility and delivery point.
  • The basis for the offered supply.
  • Applicable vessel and terminal requirements.
  • Nomination and scheduling arrangements.
  • Inspection, documentation and included charges.

A port name in an advertisement does not establish access to a particular terminal. Availability must be confirmed for the proposed transaction.

Jet A1 FOB Fujairah: Preparing an Enquiry

For a Jet A1 FOB Fujairah requirement, provide your preferred loading window, shipment size and destination.

Clarify the loading facility, product source, operational responsibilities and conditions attached to the offer. Establish whether the stated schedule depends on production, incoming supply, storage or terminal acceptance.

Do not treat a general regional supply claim as confirmation of a specific loading position.

Jet A1 FOB Singapore: Preparing an Enquiry

A Jet A1 FOB Singapore request should identify the preferred loading location as precisely as possible.

Ask the proposed supplier to confirm the facility, offered volume, shipment window, documentation and vessel-acceptance requirements. Different facilities may have different operational conditions.

Do not assume that a reference to Singapore establishes access to every terminal or loading location.

Spot Cargo or Recurring FOB Supply?

A spot requirement concerns a particular shipment and loading window. A recurring requirement also needs expected shipment frequency, monthly volume and contract duration.

For recurring purchases, clarify nomination notice, scheduling flexibility, quantity tolerances and how changed requirements will be addressed.

Keep initial enquiries specific. For additional discussion of ongoing arrangements, see Jet A1 Fuel Supply Contracts.

Jet A1 Product Quality and Documentation

Specify the applicable aviation-fuel standard, edition and receiving requirements before requesting a firm quotation.

ASTM D1655 and Defence Standard 91-091 are established specification references for aviation turbine fuel. Confirm which requirements apply to the proposed Jet A-1 purchase. IATA discusses these specification references.

Agree the quality-document package and its connection to the actual batch or cargo. Identify who issues the documents, how traceability is established and how acceptance will be assessed.

Depending on the transaction, requirements may include:

  • Quality certificates and test results.
  • Quantity and inspection records.
  • Origin documentation.
  • Commercial invoice.
  • Shipping documents.

Quality assurance extends beyond a certificate. Storage, handling and distribution controls also matter, as explained in IATA’s Technical Fuel resources.

Loading, Inspection and Receiving Arrangements

Establish the practical arrangements before committing to a shipment:

  • Who nominates the vessel and coordinates terminal acceptance?
  • What loading window is proposed?
  • Who appoints the inspector and pays the agreed costs?
  • Where will sampling and quantity measurement occur?
  • How will discrepancies be handled?
  • Can the destination facility accept the product and shipment?
  • Which party manages discharge and subsequent transport?

A commercially attractive quotation still needs a workable loading and receiving plan.

Comparing FOB and CIF Quotations

FOB and CIF quotations allocate transport costs differently.

Under CIF Incoterms® 2020, the seller arranges freight and insurance to the named destination port, but delivery and risk transfer occur on board at the shipment port. They do not wait until arrival. ICC explains this distinction.

Compare equivalent specifications, volumes, schedules and destinations. Identify:

  • Product pricing basis and quotation validity.
  • Included loading and terminal costs.
  • Freight and insurance responsibilities.
  • Inspection charges.
  • Destination handling and storage costs.
  • Taxes and other applicable charges.
  • Payment, acceptance and title-transfer provisions.

Do not interpret an FOB price as a complete delivered cost.

Jet A1 FOB RFQ Checklist

Include the following in your request for quotation:

  1. Legal buyer name and purchasing contact.
  2. Product specification and receiving requirements.
  3. Quantity per shipment.
  4. Spot or recurring purchase.
  5. Monthly volume and duration, where applicable.
  6. Preferred named loading port.
  7. Acceptable loading window.
  8. Destination and receiving facility.
  9. Vessel nomination arrangements.
  10. Inspection and documentation requirements.

For example, a useful enquiry describes the required volume, specification, preferred loading port and timing. A message asking only for the “best Jet A1 price” leaves essential commercial information unresolved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose a Jet A1 FOB supplier?

Assess the contracting company, commercial authority, product documentation, supply evidence and ability to support the proposed loading arrangement.

Can I request Rotterdam, Fujairah or Singapore?

You can state a preferred loading port and acceptable alternatives. Whether the requirement can be supported needs confirmation; this guide does not establish available inventory at those locations.

Does FOB include ocean freight?

Under FOB, the buyer generally arranges the main carriage. Establish the named port, delivery point and applicable rule in the agreement.

What is the minimum purchase quantity?

There is no universal minimum established here. Ask the proposed provider to confirm quantity constraints for the particular supply and loading arrangement.

Does an allocation confirm ready-to-load fuel?

Not automatically. Establish what the allocation represents and how it relates to physical availability, documentation and the proposed loading window.

Does bulk FOB supply include airport refuelling?

Not automatically. Airport delivery and into-plane service must be separately specified and confirmed.

Request Jet A1 Procurement Review

Send Global Petroleum Advisors your company details, specification, quantity, preferred loading port, destination and required timing.

Your enquiry starts a review. It does not confirm price, stock, allocation, terminal access or delivery. GPA’s transaction role and the responsibilities of proposed counterparties should be established before commercial commitments.
